Robust and compatible for industry: foot switch with new wireless system
The steute Controltec wireless range for industry attaches particular importance to foot switches and is now launching a new series in time for the AAA. These RF GF SW2.4 LE-IND foot switches are immediately noticeable in new colours (yellow and grey). Fundamental differences to their predecessors include a new Low Energy wireless system which is already well established in steute medical foot switches. This system features a long range (up to 45 m indoors), and permits multiple wireless switches to be operated in parallel on a single machine or in a single production area. Other improvements in comparison to the former series include a much lower power consumption, ensuring long battery times between charging cycles. The quality of the connectivity, i.e. the wireless signal, is permanently monitored and displayed on the antenna unit. At the hardware level, the new wireless foot switch series is extremely durable, even in adverse environments. The aluminium enclosure is powder-coated, and the switches can be operated in damp conditions (protection class IP 67), as well as in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C. These one or two-pedal switches are optionally available with a protective shield. Also new is the corresponding RF RxT SW2.4 LE-IND receiver. This slim 23 mm unit takes up very little space on mounting rail and yet has four NOC as output contacts, as well as a validate relay, also as NOC, for signal processing. Thanks to redundant signalling between the transmitter and receiver, this wireless system is extremely reliable. Pairing of the receiver with the foot switch is simple, and LEDs inform users about relevant operating states.

Extreme foot switch RF GFSI Extreme
Able to withstand high-pressure cleaning, mechanically robust and corrosion-resistant/ Foot controls for extreme environments The foot controls in our “GF(S)I Extreme” series are designed to be very robust and can withstand even high levels of mechanical wear and tear. An optional protective guard hinders unintentional actuation. The housing is so effectively sealed that it can even withstand high-pressure cleaning (protection class IP 69K). The special powder-coated and corrosion resistant aluminium housing also passed the salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227 with no difficulty at all. This switchgear series can be used in safety applications (GFSI) and to actuate machine functions during normal operation (GFI). Different switching inserts permit adaptation to individual applications. An Ex variant for Ex zones 1 and 21 is under development. A wireless variant requiring neither power nor signal cables is also planned. This variant will communicate via the sWave SW868 /SW915 wireless technology developed by steute. It facilitates greater flexibility when positioning switchgear and excludes the risk of cables becoming damaged in the rough ambient conditions which extreme foot controls are exposed to every day.

Emergency pull-wire and belt alignment switches for extreme ambient conditions - product range now completed
At the Solids 2023, the steute business unit "Extreme" will be presenting an expansion - or rather doubling - of its ZS 92S/SR series. To date, these extremely robust and versatile emergency pull-wire and belt alignment switches have been "packaged" in a die-cast aluminium enclosure ideally suited to unfavourable ambient conditions thanks to multiple coatings (passivation, base coat, powder coat). Users can now alternatively opt for an enclosure which is made out of top-quality duroplastic and is anti-corrosive beyond all reasonable doubt. All screws and connecting elements are stainless steel. The entire series features a high degree of flexibility. The ZS 92 S is available with a variety of pre-installed settings for the release lever and the unlocking mechanism. This means that the switch can be installed in nearly every conceivable operating position, including the rear side. Installation dimensions are compatible with other readily available emergency pull-wire and belt alignment switches, making it easy to retrofit existing (conveyor) plants with the new switches or to exchange them later. In the ZS 92 SR belt alignment switch, the switching points for advance warning and switch off are easily adjustable in 5° steps, considerably increasing its practicality and versatility. Users also benefit from significantly reduced release forces and paths when actuating the emergency stop function. They make the safety switch easier to operate and also mean that all the relevant international standards (e.g. regarding emergency stop devices with mechanical latching function) are reliably met. The latest additions to the ZS 92 series with their robust plastic enclosures – whether as emergency pull-wire or belt alignment switches – are thus ideally suited to bulk conveying and handling applications.

Wireless inductive sensors with flexible switching points for flush and non-flush mounting
On the outside, nothing has changed. But the completely reworked RF IS FL wireless inductive sensors, which steute steute business division Controltec will be presenting at the AAA 2025, feature new high-utility functions for users in mechanical and plant engineering, as well as industrial manufacturing. Two goals were at the heart of the re-design. Firstly, the cylindrical sensors in diameters M 8, M 12, M 18 and M 30 are now also suitable for flush mounting. To date, this was not possible because battery-powered wireless inductive sensors with a fixed switching point would detect the surrounding metallic material and switch accordingly. This unfortunately often ruled out their use in some applications – e.g. the detection of material handling in robot grippers, or the detection of workpieces in machine tools or assembly and handling units. The steute engineers have managed to open up these additional application fields by developing their latest generation as FLexible sensors with digital autocalibration. The inductive sensors now no longer have a fixed switching point, but adjust their switching point automatically and dynamically to the situation in question. And this includes the distinction between flush and non-flush mounting. The sensors can even adjust to dynamic changes, such as increasing dirt levels. The sensors are thus always fit for use and only switch when required by the situation or the user. The second goal – reduced power consumption – has also been achieved. Certain measures now considerably lengthen the battery lifetime in the universal radio modules, suitable for connection to up to four RF IS FL. Overall, the power requirement could be reduced by as much as 80%, compared to the previous model.
